The Furniture Factory Advantage: How We Control Quality

When clients first learn that StudioPS has its own furniture factory, the reaction is usually surprise. Most design firms specify furniture and source it from manufacturers — why would a design studio invest in production?

The answer is control. Control over material quality at the input stage. Control over manufacturing precision. Control over finishing quality. Control over timeline. When we specify a 19mm board, we know it is 19mm — not 17.8mm from a vendor trying to preserve margin. When we specify a particular edge-banding adhesive, we know it is applied correctly.

The factory also enables design freedom that catalogue manufacturing cannot provide. We build to dimension, which means no awkward filler panels, no wasted space, no compromises to fit standard module sizes into non-standard rooms. Every unit is made for its specific location.

Perhaps most importantly, the factory means that our creative director and production team are in continuous conversation. When a design principle is established in the studio, it is implemented directly in production — there is no translation loss, no specification document being misread, no substitution happening without our knowledge.
